Functional Testing
Welcome to Functional Testing!

Functional testing is unique. It goes beyond standard lab testing. Instead of looking at end-result disease markers, functional testing looks at the complex physiology of whole body systems for root causes of disease. It's important to note that functional tests are NOT considered diagnostic and should not be used alone to to diagnose any disease. Only your doctor can do that. These tests, especially when done in combination with complementary panels, can show us indicators and patterns associated with health and disease which we hope will guide your decision process and help chart your course. And now, much of this is available right to your front door.
We think it's downright revolutionary.

Which test?
Information about each test is available through product descriptions in the lab shops. Unfortunately due to licensing and legal reasons, we cannot provide advice if you are not an established patient, residing within one of the states where we practice. Please take a close look at the information provided within the shops from the labs. You may also find some help in our FAQ section below.

Why Do You Have Three Labshops?Sometimes we're limited by the technology we have. Vibrant and Rupa both offer their own platforms and they don't play well with each other, but both offer great testing services without restrictions and without our direct involvement. We also wanted to be able to offer Vibrant sales, and that's not possible within the Vibrant platform. We also wanted to offer a collection of own tests that are from all labs where we can also provide consult services. So, that's what we've done here by setting up three different labs, so you can have the most options.

Why Choose Rupa Labs?Rupa Health uses it's own platform that allows access to a range of lab tests across multiple vendors in one single order. Their customer service is excellent, and they can help you through the ordering process and setting up blood draws. They also provide something called Physician Services, and an MD in their network will sign off on your lab order. Orders are HSA eligible. If you are looking for IgeneX tick borne panels, this is where you access them. They are unfortunately not available to folks over 65. Rupa Health no longer offers Vibrant tests. Consults are not available for orders placed through Rupa Health. Tests are available in the US only and may be restricted in NY and NJ.

Why Choose Functional Health Labs?COMING SOON. This lab shop will be for clients living within states where we are licensed. This will be a collection of our favorite tests across multiple labs and they will be available with a personal consult. It will also include special Vibrant Lab Bundles. Vibrant's site won't allow us to bundle, so we need to do it ourselves and the sales and promotions will appear here.

Why Choose Vibrant Labs?Vibrant Wellness is a great lab that offers a huge variety of testing at reasonable pricing. Many of their non-blood draw labs are also available outside of the US. Anyone can order from this labshop. Consults are restricted to a handful of tests and only available in states where we are licensed, however Tick Testing is an exception to this and open to everyone as it's not nutrition-related.

Which Test Should I Order for Lyme Disease and Coinfections? As of this moment, we offer access to Vibrant and IgeneX testing. We highly recommend you work with a Lyme Literate provider to choose the right option for you. However, we recognize this is not always feasible. Vibrant Labs offer the easiest solution, with two options in the Tickborne Panels 1.0 and 2.0. The 1.0 is the most affordable and covers most Lyme bacteria and coinfections. The 2.0 adds opportunistic infections and viral infections. These tests are available in the Vibrant Wellness Lab Shop. **Please note, these tests come in blood spot AND blood draws. The blood draw includes both antibody testing and PCR testing. Please add the free TOTAL ANTIBODY TESTING when ordering a whole blood test so that you know how many antibodies you are working with in the first place. You can also order these ahead of time from your physician. If your total looks good, you can feel more confident ordering further antibody tests. **Also please note that antibody testing is not accurate within the first weeks of an infection. Your body needs time to switch on it's defenses. IgeneX is the leader in tick borne pathogen testing. They offer a huge array of panels and testing methods, each method is designed to look for pathogens at different stages of infection (new bite, acute infection, chronic infection). Deciding which test warrants a discussion, and we encourage you to book a quick consult. IgeneX tests can be found in Rupa Lab Shop and are available to those under 65.

Will Lyme Disease Tests Give Me A Clear Diagnosis?Sadly the answer is generally no, and a diagnosis must always be a clinical one, made by your provider. These tests can provide a foundation and clues, but they must be matched with your clinical presentation. Results are not cut and dry for a number of reasons. Most of the tests are antibody tests- they're looking for your immune response to pieces of the pathogen in your body. -Antibodies may be present and missed by the tests. -Antibodies fluctuate constantly -Different antibodies may be present or absent at different stages of the infection. -Not everyone converts to make the longer term IgG antibodies. -Lyme and other infections supress the immune system. You simply may not be making enough to register on the test. PCR tests may provide better evidence but they are also not failsafe. -The bacteria prefer not to live free in the blood and can be missed. -Not every lab will test for every species

What's Your Favorite GI/Microbiome Test?We really love Vibrant's Gut Zoomer. It tests for the most commensal and pathogenic bacteria as well as the most parasites. Inflammatory and leaky gut markers are also included, along with a few that can suggest gluten intolerance. It's also the most expensive, however it's often available in bundle deals. It pairs well with the Wheat Zoomer. GI Map is available through Rupa Health and is the runner up. We do not offer consults for this test at this time.
-
Do You Offer SIBO Testing? We do not offer DIY SIBO testing at this time. SIBO tests can be very nuanced and it requires training to read them and pair findings with your personal symptoms. Preparing for the test also requires specific coaching. For us, this all adds up to nutrition counseling, which is an activity requiring licensing. We WILL be offering this soon in states where we are licensed. Please sign up for the Nutrition Therapy Wait List.
-
Which Test Should I order for Mycotoxins? The Mycotoxin tests offered are urine tests. Vibrant currently tests for the most mycotoxins, however it is the most expensive. Mosaic also makes a great test, and this is available through Rupa and also through the Functional Health Revolution Lab Shop where consults can be added. Vibrant Mycotoxin tests are available internationally. Mosaic can also be shipped to many countries, please contact us for more info.
-
Do you offer Nutrigenomics tests?Yes! Nutrigenomics testing is available through 3x4, found in our FHR Lab Shop. Vibrant also offers several genetics tests as well.
